[1]Luxury fashion retailer Holt Renfrew is promoting a new Toronto exhibit by Canadian artist and writer Douglas Coupland with special window displays at its flagship store and ‘Gumhead,’ a giant sculpted bust of Coupland.
The installations in Holt Renfrew’s main Toronto store at 100 Bloor Street West represent a partnership with both the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) and the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art (MOCCA), where Coupland’s latest exhibit opened at the end of January and will run until late April.
The public is invited to interact with Gumhead (pictured left) by contributing to its changing design with their own chewing gum. Over time, the artist’s face will become completely obscured. The piece is flanked by storefront windows (example pictured below, left) inspired by Coupland’s work.
[2]Meanwhile, another Holt Renfew store at Toronto’s Yorkdale Shopping Centre will showcase Coupland’s work on its two-storey-tall video walls. (see Sign Media Canada, April 2014, page 46).
