[1]Hamilton Scenic Specialty of Dundas, Ont., has designed, constructed and installed a new illuminated sign in the forecourt of Hamilton City Hall, comprising letters large enough for people to stand inside them.
The sign’s 2.3-m (7.5-ft) tall hollow letters, spelling out ‘Hamilton,’ are built of aluminum to resist rusting. They are illuminated by light-emitting diode (LED) modules at the base of each letter, which can create a variety of colour combinations.
“We’ve learned from the example of the famous Toronto sign, which was only meant to be temporary and has required a lot of upkeep,” says Mike Kukucska, owner of Hamilton Scenic Specialty. “This one should last 1,000 years!”
