[1]Icon Digital Productions, which produces large-format display graphics in Richmond Hill, Ont., has installed Canada’s first Durst Rho 1312 ultraviolet-curing (UV-curing) ‘hybrid’ digital inkjet printer, which supports both flatbed and roll-to-roll printing.
The 2.5-m (98-in.) wide Rho 1312 is reportedly the most productive hybrid printer in its class with 12-picolitre ink droplets, producing up to 613 m2 (6,500 sf) of output per hour.
“We have a number of Durst printers in our shop and we’ve come to appreciate them as very reliable and fast, with print quality as good as it gets in large-format,” says Icon president and CEO Juan Lau (pictured, left, with chief financial officer (CFO) Alex Christopoulos, centre, and Durst sales representative Joe Lloyd, right). “We were ready to upgrade our flatbed and needed something faster. The Rho 1312 is definitely one of the fastest we looked at. It seems to have reached speeds and image quality on par with lithography. That means we can do less outsourcing to litho printers and keep that work in-house.”
