The International Sign Association (ISA) has partnered with Repurpose America, a non-profit organization, to ensure materials from the upcoming 2013 International Sign Expo are recycled and reused after the show ends.

Based in Las Vegas, Nev., where this year’s expo is taking place, Repurpose will sort through the materials each day after the exhibit hall closes and selectively deliver items to local community groups. Employing military veterans and people with disabilities, the organization has previously turned trade show banners into sunshades, for example, and secured carpeting and paint for an early learning centre.

“While we have made strides in reducing our carbon footprint, this will provide new uses for some of the items, while also making a positive impact on communities,” says Lori Anderson, ISA’s president and CEO.

Neschen Americas, which markets lamination systems and consumables, is sponsoring the service during the show, which runs from April 3 to 6 at Las Vegas’ Mandalay Bay Resort and Convention Center.

“The expo offers a great opportunity to see how products can gain a second life,” says Angela Mohni, Neschen’s vice-president (VP) of marketing. “Repurpose provides jobs while creating goods that benefit others.”
