The federal government is investing $240,000 to help establish new road signage and safety zones surrounding schools in Kingston, Ont.
The goal of the project is to provide students of all ages with opportunities to travel to and from school actively and safely. These improvements are designed to encourage families, students, and staff to walk or bike, with less worry about potential road safety concerns.
Through this project, more than 40 elementary and secondary schools have already begun using Community Safety Zones, and additional areas with pavement markings and speed reduction measures will soon be implemented.
“Improving road safety and supporting active travel to school are significant priorities for the City of Kingston,” says Mayor Bryan Paterson. “Community Safety Zones, speed limit reductions, and pavement markings are all important tools to improve safety for students and their families. We appreciate the partnership with the federal government to continue this important work.”
