The town of Ladysmith, B.C., is calling for artist submissions for its 2024 Community Banner Program.
Emerging and professional artists of all ages, residing in town or the nearby Stz’uminus First Nation, are encouraged to create a street banner design that evokes Ladysmith’s small town charm; community life; natural environment; and long, diverse cultural heritage.
The theme for the 2024 program is “Ladysmith Celebrates,” which aims to highlight the town’s festivals and celebrations through vibrant art that creates opportunities to be together, fosters community, strengthens relationships, and celebrates culture and diversity.
In order to create visual cohesion, submissions must adhere to a palette of black, white, red, yellow, blue, medium blue, green, medium green, purple, and orange.
Each submission package should include a complimentary pair of designs, across two banners. Submissions are open until Jan. 29 at 4 p.m. The artist whose panel design pair is chosen will be awarded an honorarium of $1,000.
The banners will be installed on First Avenue in spring 2024, where they will remain for a year. They will then be added to Transfer Beach Boulevard and along Fourth Avenue.
