Digital interactive studio iGotcha Media has partnered with Lamar Advertising to provide touchscreen kiosks for TransLink, Vancouver’s regional transportation authority.
The kiosks will present an effective and highly-visual form of communication that allows users to plan trips, access live transit schedules, see upcoming departure times, receive alerts, and emergency notifications.
Using an application developed by iGotcha Media, the kiosks act as an advertising platform when not in use. They also integrate wayfinding technology, Really Simple Syndication (RSS) and weather feeds, attractions information (area shopping and restaurants, etc.) and a ‘green’ feature which analyses routes and compares the energy efficiency of public transportation to automobile use.
The wheelchair-accessible kiosks feature 1397-mm (55-in.) screens and a customized user interface which adapts to ambient light. Kiosks are also resistant to weather conditions including rain, snow, hail, and extreme temperatures.
“We see this as a win for TransLink and our customers,” said TransLink’s CEO Kevin Desmond. “Commuters will be able to access the most up-to-date transit information and plan their trips using different modes around our network. These high-tech devices come in addition to existing journey planning services already available.”
