Printing Industries of America (PIA), a trade association, has honoured Esko’s i-cut suite workflow for large-format printing with a 2012 InterTech Award. The annual awards recognize technologies predicted to have a major effect on graphic arts.
It was the sixth InterTech Award in 10 years for Esko, which has developed both hardware and software for the sign, display, commercial printing, packaging and publishing industries. Its previous wins were in 2003, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2011.
“We are flattered i-cut suite was deemed worthy of this award,” says Carsten Knudsen, president and CEO of Esko. “Supported by research and development (R&D) investments, it is being adopted by many wide-format shops.”
“We’ve only used it for several weeks, but already we’re experiencing much faster production,” says Jeff Beaton, vice-president (VP) of Ad-vantage Signs and Graphics in Burlington, Ont. “In some instances, our graphic designer finds it is 75 per cent faster than our previous way of handling Portable Document Format (PDF) files and imposition.”
“The judges acknowledged wide-format workflows, for the most part, have been missing,” explains Mark Bohan, PIA’s VP of technology and research. “This suite provides a unified workflow, linking printing to finishing.”
