Gerardo (Jerry) Pappa, a trailblazer in LED signage and the president and founder of Sunitron Inc., passed away on Jan. 4 at the age of 75.
Pappa started Sunitron in the 1980s, after years of research and development into computerized, electronic LED message signs. It has since evolved to become a well-known distributor of electronic moving LED message and computerized signage worldwide.
“The LED sign industry has lost a pioneer,” reads a statement from Pappa’s family. “He had a vision in the early ’80s that LED would be the future and he was correct. Jerry will be deeply missed.”
Three viewings were held on Jan. 9 and 10, at Bernardo Funeral Homes at 2960 Dufferin St. in North York, Ont.
There was also a funeral mass at St. Charles Borromeo Church, at 811 Lawrence Ave. W in North York, on Jan. 11.
