This fall, the Royal Canadian Legion will continue to honour hundreds of veterans through its memorial banner program.
Organized by branches across the country, the program works with communities and groups to help them display the names and faces of local veterans, as well as share their stories. Using vibrant, colourful imagery, the goal of the banners is to connect each community with everyday people who made the decision to serve their country.
Additionally, through the program, the legion hopes to promote remembrance, educate everyone on the service of the country’s veterans, and help ensure recognition and remembrance for future generations. Stories behind the names featured on the banners can be found on each branch’s website.
Those interested in supporting the banner program or starting one of their own are encouraged to contact their local legion. There are currently programs running at locations in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia.
