Newmarket, Ont., got a taste of hockey fever as McDonald’s temporarily rebranded two locations as “McDavid’s” to honour hometown hero Connor McDavid. The Edmonton Oilers captain delivered a clutch overtime goal to secure Team Canada’s victory at the Four Nations Face-Off in February, making good on a promise McDonald’s made during the 2024 NHL playoffs.
According to CTV News, the fast-food giant had pledged to rename a restaurant if McDavid helped bring home a championship. While the Stanley Cup slipped through his grasp, his heroics on the international stage sealed the deal, leading to the week-long name change.

“At McDavid’s, we’re celebrating more than just a name change; we’re celebrating community pride and the sport that brings us all together. Honoring our hometown hero Connor McDavid and our team’s incredible win is a testament to our shared spirit here in Newmarket,” the Davis Drive franchise owner, Peter Miller, told CTV News.
In his 10th NHL season, McDavid was also on the verge of a historic milestone, needing just two more assists to reach 700 for his career. As per the CTV News report, if he hit that mark in his next three games, he would join Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux as one of the fastest players in NHL history to do so.
With hockey fans rallying behind their hometown star, Newmarket was buzzing—and for one week, the Big Mac wasn’t the only legend on the menu.
