A new digital signage network installed at the Esplanade Arts and Heritage Centre in Medicine Hat, Alta., is being managed with Audience software developed by Capital Networks in Markham, Ont., for Google’s Android operating system (OS).
The multi-use facility—which includes a museum, theatre, art gallery, discovery centre, archives, gift shop and café—has turned to digital signage to promote current and future events.
“We were looking to modernize our venue and promote our events to the public as they pass through the building,” explains Trampas Brown, the Esplanade’s cultural facilities supervisor. “As well, we wanted digital wayfinding for people who are less familiar with our space.”
The network includes 1-m (40-in.) liquid crystal displays (LCDs) in the main and upper lobbies, as well as portable systems that are moved depending on event-specific needs, displaying a mix of program descriptions, event listings and ads.
“We’ve linked Audience with our facility-booking program to automate the daily event listings,” says Brown. “The training to use the system was very straightforward and brief, as the interface is simple to learn. We were able to ‘go live’ about 30 days after making the decision to proceed.”
