Now open in downtown Montreal, iBurger is a new fast-food restaurant where customers can order their food and drinks directly by interacting with customized, high-tech ‘touch menu’ tables.
The restaurant’s owners, Alexandre Maher and Frank Roche, reportedly spent a year developing the tables, which are similar to other restaurants’ Microsoft Surface systems and Apple iPad menus, but unique to the location. The $3,000 tables were tested to check if they could safely endure hot dishes, dropped cutlery and any food and drink spills.
As the name suggests, iBurger specializes in a variety of burgers, which patrons can browse through on the screens, along with information about the restaurant. They can also use the tables to view the kitchen area, pay their bills and even order a cab after dinner.
Waiters are on hand to greet arriving customers, help them as necessary (e.g. checking on food allergies) and deliver food and drinks to their tables.
