Manitoba Telecom Services (MTS) recently introduced a narrow-bezel 5 x 5-screen video wall that fits into a corner at one of its mobile phone retail stores, with the end column configured on an adjacent perpendicular surface.
“The challenge with this 90-degree bend was to maintain serviceability,” says Gil Gauthier, certified technology design specialist for Winnipeg-based Advance Pro, the audiovisual (AV) system integrator behind the project.
Gauthier’s team used Milestone AV Technologies’ Chief ConnexSys system, which allows a mount to be hung from a standard strut channel. This provided an even reference surface, allowing the installer to accommodate any distortions of the job-site wall. Otherwise, lining up the screens with individual mounts may have proven too challenging to accomplish within the three days allotted for the job.
Once the strut channel was installed and square, the video wall’s 25 NEC liquid crystal displays (LCDs) were slid into place horizontally and their depths were adjusted to line up their corner edges, which took about three hours.
“The display panels were near proper alignment from the start,” explains Joe Premecz, senior technician. “That was a huge time-saver.”
The ConnexSys system also facilitated micro-adjustments to line up the screens with greater precision before locking them into place. As for serviceability, a RapidDraw release system was specified to provide individual front access for each screen as needed.
“This is a prime example of AV hardware making life easier for the installer,” says Gauthier, “and when the overall project is smoother, it makes clients happier. It’s a win-win-win.”
