TransitScreen, which uses digital signage technology to provide live updates on all public transportation options at any given installation site, is expanding its service to Vancouver and Toronto.
Founded in 2012, TransitScreen combines open data, transportation software and digital signage hardware to deliver real-time multimodal transit information, encompassing bus, train, subway, car share and/or bicycle share networks. In Vancouver, for example, screens will feature TransLink’s bus service, while in Toronto, they will display Bixi bicycle stations and the Toronto Transit Commission’s (TTC’s) buses, streetcars, subways and light-rail transit (LRT).
“At a glance, a new or experienced user can see the nearest travel options,” explains Matt Caywood, president of TransitScreen. “One of our major goals is to decrease the dependency on single-occupancy vehicles by providing the public with alternatives.
After launching in California’s San Francisco Bay Area, TransitScreen has also expanded in the U.S. to New York, N.Y., Chicago, Ill., Boston, Mass., Los Angeles, Calif., and Portland, Ore.
