The Musée d’Art Contemporain de Montreal (MAC) will celebrate the late Leonard Cohen later this year by projecting phrases from his poems, songs and other writings on Silo No. 5, a heritage property along the Pointe-du-Moulin in the city’s Old Port.
The MAC has commissioned artist Jenny Holzer to create the giant projection with select phrases in both English and French (examples pictured). The results will serve as a temporary tribute for Montreal-born Cohen in November 2017, on the first anniversary of his death.
“Jenny is one of the most innovative and renowned contemporary artists,” says John Zeppetelli, the MAC’s director and chief curator. “Her creations will give Leonard Cohen a touching tribute at a scale equal to the impact of his work.”
