- Digital printer/cutter manufacturer Roland DG has opened a new manufacturing facility (pictured) in Bangkok, Thailand. It is Roland’s first production centre outside Japan and will focus on large-format inkjet printers. Given floods that have recently plagued the region, the factory was designed with a floor raised 1.8 m (6 ft) above ground level.
- Christie Digital Systems, which develops display and projection technologies in Kitchener, Ont., has expanded its presence in South America with the opening of its first showroom and office in São Paulo, Brazil. The company has also established new subsidiaries and offices in South Africa, Australia and India over the past year.
- Having recently consolidated various digital imaging and printing businesses, Canon has opened its new U.S. headquarters (HQ) in Melville, N.Y., retaining its skilled Long Island workforce. The 65,032-m2 (700,000-sf) facility will serve all North and South American markets. Canon’s other two worldwide HQ facilities are in London, England, and Tokyo, Japan.
- Corning has opened a liquid crystal display (LCD) glass substrate manufacturing facility in China’s Beijing Economic Technological Development Area (BDA), which will supply panel makers. It is the company’s second thin-film transistor (TFT) LCD glass production facility in mainland China.
