- Endicott Research Group (ERG) has partnered with GRE Alpha Electronics to provide light-emitting diode (LED) drivers (example pictured) for illuminated signs and other applications throughout Canada and the U.S.
- The Canadian Out-of-Home Digital Association (CODACAN) has become a member of the Digital Place-based Advertising Association (DPAA).
- Screenprinting equipment manufacturer AWT World Trade acquired Saturn Racks, which provides racks for storage and drying purposes.
- Montreal-based out-of-home (OOH) advertising operator Newad entered an exclusive agreement with La Cage Aux Sports, which operates 53 corporate and franchised restaurants and sports bars throughout Quebec. The agreement includes digital signs in dining rooms and posters in washrooms.
- The Canadian Printing Industries Sector Council (CPISC) is in merger discussions with the Canadian Printing Industries Association (CPIA) to create a single new organization.
- Bee Media, which operates a mobile e-commerce platform, has acquired Toronto-based Adcentricity, which provides marketing services through digital signage and other location-based technologies. Going forward, the combined entity will operate as Adcentricity.
- New Canadian members of the Specialty Graphic Imaging Association (SGIA) include Avanti in Toronto, Signage & Printing Solutions in Calgary and STM and Eyecatching Prints in Mississauga, Ont.
- Flypaper developed new digital signage content creation software for use directly within Microsoft’s PowerPoint.
- Montreal-based Pazazz, which produces wide-format graphics and other output, has become the first printing company in Quebec to join the International Printers’ Network (IPN). Being part of this global alliance gives Pazazz access to more than 45 other printing companies in 30 countries, so they can manage worldwide accounts together.
- Large-format flexible light-emitting diode (LED) display developer NanoLumens has entered a manufacturing agreement with PartnerTech in Lawrenceville, Ga., under which PartnerTech will serve as a contract manufacturer for NanoLumens’ digital signage systems.
- Danaher—the parent company of sign and display finishing software and hardware provider Esko—has entered a definitive merger agreement to acquire X-Rite, which develops colour management systems.
- Montreal-based X2O Media has fully integrated its cloud-based digital signage content management platform with Polycom’s RealPresence media management software to help users simplify the scheduling and delivery of video assets to digital displays.
- GraphixDirect has become the master distributor for Flora Digital’s ultraviolet-curing (UV-curing) flatbed printers in Canada and the U.S.
- Hughes Network Systems developed a digital signage template builder application for the Apple iPad, which operates over Hughes’ MediaSignage servers.
- Extruded thermoplastic sheet provider Bayer MaterialScience announced it would acquire Arkema’s polycarbonate sheet business.
- Through an integrated partner program, Matrox Graphics is working to ensure its video wall controller boards are compatible with Creston’s line of touch-based control systems.
- Signmaking software developer SA International has introduced more than 90 new International Color Consortium (ICC) profiles for the use of its Flexi and PhotoPrint programs with Mutoh’s large-format printers.
- Digital display manufacturer Phillips and entertainment technology developer Dolby Laboratories have collaborated on a new high-definition (HD) three-dimensional (3-D) content format and suite of products to deliver it to enabled devices, including ‘glasses-free’ screens.
- Electronics for Imaging (EFI), the parent company of large-format printer manufacturer Vutek, has acquired Brazil-based Metrics Sistemas de Informacao, which develops enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems for the printing and packaging industries.
- Digital signage display, media player and software provider Brighter Signs, based in Lancashire, England, has branched out to Toronto under the name Topaz Canada.
- Under a new partnership, Fuji Xerox is integrating Memjet’s inkjet printheads into roll-fed wide-format presses.
- Jeff Burgess & Associates (JB&A) has been certified as a preferred distributor for Signagelive’s cloud-based digital signage software in North America’s professional audiovisual (AV) and broadcast markets.
- Retail technology provider NCR is working with interactive app developer Screenreach to combine mobile data with digital signage and kiosks.
- Ottawa-based CADlink Technology’s Digital Factory raster image processor (RIP) software now supports Epson’s SureColor SC-S30600 inkjet printers, ensuring high-fidelity colour reproduction on a variety of substrates.
