• Bakery chain Nestlé Toll House Café by Chip (sample location pictured) has selected USFI Advertising as its resource for all store signage, point-of-purchase (POP) displays and other marketing collateral for its franchises in Canada, the U.S. and the Middle East.
• The EMC Purchasing Co-operative has been established as an electronic message centre (EMC) buying group for sign shops. Member/owners include Atlas Sign & Awning in Langley, B.C., Selkirk Signs in Cranbrook, B.C., and Calgary, PM Signs in Edmonton, Calgary and Saskatoon, Sunset Neon Signs in Burlington, Ont., Atlantic Signs in Saint John, N.B., and Mattatall Signs and Anicom Signs in Dartmouth, N.S.
• A familiar name in Canadian sign product distribution is back with the launch of Treck Hall Wide Format. With offices in Vancouver and Vaughan, Ont., the company carries Epson, InteliCoat Technologies, Magic Ink, Seal, Neschen, Ilford Omnijet and Magiclée products.
• Effectav Media in Bolton, Ont., has joined the Specialty Graphic Imaging Association (SGIA) as a member company. The association also announced Scott Crosby of Holland and Crosby in Mississauga, Ont., would continue to serve on its board of directors in 2013.
• Italy’s Global Display Solutions Group (GDS Group) and electronics provider Sambers Italia agreed to jointly acquire the Hantarex line of digital signage displays, which includes advertising systems, airport screens, video information systems, interactive windows and networked displays.
• Digital signage software and hardware provider Cittadino certified AOpen’s Digital Engine media players for use with its Picturemachine software for producing, editing, distributing and monitoring digital signage content.
• Out-of-home (OOH) advertising firms Titan, Rouge Media, Quebecor Media and Cogeco Multimedia have become members of the Canadian Out-of-Home Measurement Bureau (COMB).
• Digital signage software provider Signbox Microsystems selected Amazon Web Services to host its Signbox.tv platform.
• Touch-screen technology developer TouchSystems has joined the Digital Signage Federation (DSF).
• Ultraviolet-curable (UV-curable) screenprinting ink manufacturer Kolorcure has been tested and certified by software developer Color-Logic for use with its process metallic colour printing system.
• Digital signage software provider Capital Networks, based in Markham, Ont., has partnered with energy-efficient computing platform developer Via Technologies under the latter’s embedded digital signage independent software vendor (ISV) program.
• Toronto-based CBCI Telecom has been named an authorized digital media system partner for Cisco Systems, allowing it to sell, deploy and support Cisco’s digital signage content publishing technology.
• Large-format piezeoelectric printer vendor Mutoh America entered a partnership with Beaver Paper, which engineers sublimation papers for soft signage and other applications.
• InteliCoat Technologies expanded its Magic product line with water-resistant ‘plug and print’ inks designed specifically for Epson’s Stylus Pro GS6000 and Mutoh America’s ValueJet printers, compatible with all brands of media.
• Printed electronics company Plextronics has partnered with the Holst Centre, a research facility in the Netherlands, to explore the potential use of organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) in signage and illumination applications.
• Captive Indoor Media, which operates digital signage in hotels, restaurants, college campuses and health-care facilities, changed its name to Codigo.
• Large-format printer/cutter distributor Paradigm Imaging Group has established Paradigm Financial Services to provide commercial equipment leasing packages for its dealers and their customers.
• ConnectedSign, which plans and deploys digital signage networks, has partnered with liquid crystal display (LCD) manufacturer ViewSonic to develop interactive kiosks for the retail, hospitality and education markets.
• Digital signage network operator 11Giraffes has extended its content delivery contract with BlueFox for two more years, allowing it to display BlueFox’s news feeds and video footage on its screens in retail, hospitality and health-care networks across Canada and the U.S.
• 3M Commercial Graphics announced its Matched Component System (MCS) warranty now covers graphics printed with EFI’s R3225 ultraviolet-curing (UV-curing) roll-to-roll printers using select 3M inks and media.
