- Matic, a finishing equipment manufacturer in Spain, announced an exclusive partnership with Montreal-based Techno-Gestass Graphics (TG Graphics) to sell and service its machines in Canada, including the Cronos sewing machine (pictured) for fabrics, silicone keders and Velcro fasteners.
- Digital signage software developer Scala named Toronto-based Dot2Dot Communications its master distributor in Canada and sole global proprietor for the Ad Manager platform, which Scala previously purchased from Market Information Services of Canada (MISC). Earlier, media player and small-format screen manufacturer HP joined Scala at the 2012 RetailNow Conference to help demystify digital signage for retail system providers.
- Corum Digital in Vaughan, Ont., has acquired the assets of cloud-based digital signage developer MediaTile to complement its existing FirmChannel line of digital signage products. MediaTile is involved in the deployments of some 1,000 screens to date.
- Montreal-based Zoom Media Group entered a long-term agreement to extend its operation of the Gold’s Gym Broadcasting Network in corporate and franchised fitness centres across Canada and the U.S. Zoom’s ClubCom subsidiary has managed the network since it was launched in June 2010.
- Tech Data Canada, which distributes information technology (IT) products, entered an agreement to offer Charlottetown-based ScreenScape Networks’ digital signage software service through resellers across the country. Tech Data launched its digital signage network in 2011.
- Toronto-based Adcentricity, which provides location-based marketing, acquired Media 2 Go International’s proximity marketing business, allowing it to broadcast multimedia content from digital signs to wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) and Bluetooth-enabled mobile devices.
- New Canadian members of the Specialty Graphic Imaging Association (SGIA) include Creative Giant in Edmonton, Flair Graphics & Printing in Calgary, HD Graphics in Ile-des-Chenes, Man., PCL Graphics in Toronto and Unisource Canada in Richmond Hill, Ont.
- 3DIcon, which develops three-dimensional (3-D) projection and display technologies, signed a letter of intent to acquire Dimension Technologies, which produces ‘glasses-free’ flat-screen 3-D displays.
- Montreal-based UB Media now represents digital out-of-home (DOOH) advertising sales for Touchtunes Interactive Network’s approximately 2,000 gesture-enabled ‘jukebox’ digital media players installed in bars and restaurants across Canada.
- Vigix has developed product-vending kiosks that incorporate digital signage and Intel’s Audience Impression Metrics (AIM) Suite—originally developed by Toronto-based CognoVision—to track users’ demographics and purchasing patterns, to help optimize decisions about product offerings and additional installation locations. Intel has also worked with Betapond to personalize digital signage content for consumers interacting with screens via Facebook on their smart phones.
- OutdoorLink, which designs wireless lighting controllers for the outdoor advertising industry, joined the Out-of-Home Marketing Association of Canada (OMAC) as an associate member.
- Montreal-based Metromedia Plus, which sells transit advertising primarily in Quebec and secondarily across Canada, has been purchased by Montreal-headquartered telecommunications provider Cogeco and rebranded as Cogeco Metromedia.
- Software provider YCD Multimedia and interactive digital signage developer Elo Touch Solutions announced a new partnership to jointly sell software and hardware to the retail sector for product advertising, pricing, ordering, promotions and entertainment.
- Canadian printing supply distributors Nustream Graphic and LR Graphic have combined to form Nustream Group, with offices in Montreal and Toronto. At press time, the new company was launching a new identity, logo and website.
- Two digital signage network operators, Campus Nation Network and DigiCast Networks, joined the Digital Place-based Advertising Association (DPAA). Campus Nation places 1- to 1.4-m (42- to 55-in.) flat-panel displays in college bookstores, while DigiCast displays ads on screens in restaurants and cafes.
- Under a new partnership, Shuttle Computer is preloading its personal computers (PCs) and media players with Flypaper Studio’s digital signage content creation platform, to make it easier for novice users to create and distribute on-screen content.
