- Elemental LED is using software from Aries Graphics International to provide a new quote service for signmakers, allowing them to input an actual sign design and automatically ‘populate’ it with the necessary number and configuration of light-emitting diode (LED) modules (example pictured).
- The Society for Environmental Graphic Design (SEGD) has altered its name slightly, rebranding as the Society for Experiential Graphic Design.
- Calgary-based Carmanah Signs, which sells digital signs to the lottery and gaming industry, has been acquired by Stratacache, a digital signage software and appliance provider.
- The Jordan Company, a private equity firm, acquired Watchfire Signs, which manufactures digital billboards.
- Wireless Ronin Technologies entered an exclusive licensing and services agreement with Delphi Display Systems to provide integrated digital signage systems for quick-service restaurant (QSRs) and gas stations.
- Wide-format printer manufacturer Epson is bundling software developer ErgoSoft’s TexPrint raster image processor (RIP) with the SureColor SC-F7000 thermo-sublimation textile printer.
- Stampede Presentation Products was selected as a strategic distributor of the Network The World (NTW) Group’s specialty telecommunications and audiovisual (AV) equipment for the digital signage market in Canada, the U.S. and Central America.
- Print service provider (PSP) Pazazz acquired Contact Image, which specializes in large-format output. Both companies are based in Montreal.
- Digital signage software and appliance provider Stratacache launched a new specialty display division, Optika Display, which will focus on resizing light-emitting diode (LED) arrays, specialty lighting, glass coatings and multi-touch interfaces for digital out-of-home (DOOH) advertising and other markets, operating from a new 2,323-m2 (25,000-sf) facility.
- Exopack Advanced Coatings bought InteliCoat Technologies, which develops inkjet-printable media for the sign industry.
- Printer vendors Fujifilm and Heidelberg have formed an alliance to share their engineering, manufacturing and inkjet technology expertise and develop new digital printing systems.
- Information technology (IT) wholesale distributor Ingram Micro teamed with Brawn Consulting to offer specialized digital signage training and certification courses to its channel partners across Canada and the U.S.
- Extruded plastic sheet manufacturer Rowmark was acquired by Bertram Capital, a private equity firm.
- Electronics for Imaging (EFI) has acquired Metrix Software, which automates print planning and imposition, and Lector Computersysteme, which develops management information systems (MISs) for narrow-, wide- and super-wide-format printing.
