Montreal-based out-of-home (OOH) advertising firm Newad has signed an exclusive agreement to manage indoor ads at New City Gas, a recently renovated historic facility in the city’s Griffintown district.
The building opened in late May with a series of Newad’s ‘classic’ static boards and plans to add high-definition (HD) digital signs and large-format banners. It has already hosted business conferences, multimedia events and musical performances by DJs like Moby and Tiësto, drawing many of the same young and affluent consumers Newad targets.
“This partnership with one of the most prestigious cultural venues in Montreal is in line with the strategic development plan for our indoor ad network,” says Philippe Marchessault, Newad’s executive vice-president (EVP) of operations, development and innovation in indoor ads.
Built between 1859 and 1861, the industrial complex was originally home to New City Gas Co., a predecessor of Hydro-Québec. It produced and distributed gas for the growing city around it, lighting Montreal’s streets and factories.
Today, it has been reimagined as a multidisciplinary event space, with capacity to host more than 4,000 guests.
