OICR brightens new offices with signage

OICR receptionEnvironmental graphic design (EGD) firm Entro has developed signage for the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research’s (OICR’s) new office space in Toronto’s Medical and Related Sciences (MaRS) Discovery District.

OICR, an independent, not-for-profit group funded by the government on Ontario, moved into the fifth and sixth floors of a new MaRS office tower at the end of 2013. Entro, which previously worked on the MaRS base building signage program, won the request for proposals (RFP) process to design signage for OICR’s lobby and reception area. Toronto-based Forward Signs handled fabrication.

OICR’s logo was represented in three metal tones of different depths, as cut by Gemini Canada in Neustadt, Ont. Hollow aluminum letters were spaced off the wall, with light-emitting diodes (LEDs) providing halo illumination against a grey background. A line drawing representing cancer genomes was installed next to the logo.

Similar line drawings were applied as frosted vinyl on meeting room, office and entrance glass as distraction patterns. Entro also designed changeable room signs with slots for paper inserts.
