A new 2,650-m2 (28,524 sf) dynamic display, comprising nearly 20 million light-emitting diodes (LEDs), has been installed atop an office tower in Johannesburg, South Africa, marking the largest deployment yet of Barco LiveDots technology.
The display extends across all four sides of the Absa Tower, tilting 2,880 of Barco’s TF-20 tiles downward to enhance the perceived brightness and image quality for people below it. It was designed by Herring Media Group.
“A project of this scale demands the full attention of an integrated team that works with vision and precision at all times,” says Marc Herring, CEO. “Our collaboration with Barco was true to this requirement and brought great confidence to the program.”
Using Barco’s DX-700 video processor and remote management software, images and video content can be displayed and moved across the four façades. Brightness levels can also be controlled separately and automatically, optimizing contrast ratios for different times of day.
