The Sign Association of Canada (SAC) presented its second annual outstanding industry contribution award to former vice-president (VP) Graham Wyndham-West at a gala dinner during the recent 2014 CONSAC trade show and conference in Mississauga, Ont.
Wyndham-West (pictured, left) was president of ND Graphics, a national sign product distributor, from 1981 to 2000. Starting in the 1990s and into the 2000s, he participated in SAC at the Ontario chapter and national levels, serving as VP from 2008 to 2011. He helped promote the need for more member education and supported efforts to develop a certification program for sign installers.
“He was a key influencer in encouraging sign shop owners to get more involved in their local chapter of SAC, as well as in considering national issues,” says two-time former SAC president Peter Brimmer (pictured, right), who won the award last year. “He was also key in identifying changing trends and expanding our view of who should be considered for membership, including engravers, marketers, architects and graphic designers. The old mindset—that only sign manufacturers could be members—had to change because technology was changing our industry.”
In presenting the award, SAC further cited Wyndham-West’s contributions to the annual CONSAC shows and regional events, as he helped ensure they were well-organized and well-run.
“I feel Graham’s passion for the sign industry is deeply ingrained in his soul,” says Brimmer. “He genuinely likes the challenges that confront the industry and changes them into opportunities. His enthusiasm easily rubs off on people in contact with him and he continues to be a great ambassador for our industry.”
“We are all stewards responsible for keeping the sign industry alive and healthy,” said Wyndham-West as he received the award.
SAC’s outstanding industry contribution award was established last year as a way to honour its members who have promoted the industry, developed best practices, created professional guidelines, built a product or service that has improved the way the sign industry does business, demonstrated leadership, provided inspiration and/or shown long-term distinguished service to the industry.
