The Specialty Graphic Imaging Association (SGIA) has introduced a certification program for digital colour management professionals and announced the first recipients of the new credentials.
Achieving certification is a two-step process. First, the applicant takes a written test to demonstrate knowledge. Next, he/she must print a test image provided by SGIA, which is evaluated for spot colour management, quality and consistency. Out of 16 students who recently took the written test at SGIA’s colour management boot camp, only seven achieved certification.
“The theoretical knowledge that goes into accurate colour is key, but what sets a print service provider (PSP) apart is the ability to get it right in practice,” says Ray Weiss, SGIA’s digital imaging specialist, “and you need to get it right consistently, especially when branding is involved.”
