The Specialty Graphic Imaging Association (SGIA) reports its recent 2012 Expo in Las Vegas, Nev., was the strongest to date, breaking previous attendance records. Held at the Las Vegas Convention Center from October 18 to 20, the conference and exhibition attracted more than 22,000 registrants and 500 exhibitors to a 21,414-m2 (230,500-sf) show floor. International registrants made up 18.5 per cent of the total, with the largest proportion visiting from Canada. “It’s a great show,” says Kevin M. Sykes, founder and senior vice-president of sales for Novus Imaging, one of the exhibitors. “The numbers are exceptional.” SGIA reports approximately 39 per cent of the attendees were first-time participants. The organization credits this growth to the show’s wide-format printing focus, which drew non-traditional registrants from the lithographic and photographic industries, among other markets. At the same time, SGIA cites a shift whereby many of its exhibitors are participating in fewer other shows, allowing them to put a greater focus on the expo.
