[1]Jim Hingst, a 42-year veteran of the graphic arts field, retired on February 27. He was business development manager for RTape, which manufactures application tape and premasks for the sign, screenprinting and digital printing industries.
Hingst began his career creating advertising and promotional materials, then went on to work in offset printing, large-format screenprinting and vinyl film manufacturing. His duties over the years included estimating, production planning and purchasing and he was recognized with numerous sales achievement awards.
Drawing on his experience, Hingst wrote more than 150 articles for all of the major North American sign industry magazines, compiled the book Vinyl Sign Techniques in 2007 and posted more than 320 stores on his blog, Hingst’s Sign Post.
During his 14 years at RTape, Hingst was involved in various facets of the business, including marketing, sales, product development and technical service.
“Looking back at my career, my only regret is I did not join RTape sooner,” he says. “The first time Riley Ellis—who was then RTape’s vice-president (VP) of marketing and sales and had previously worked with me at Arlon—offered me an employment opportunity, I foolishly declined. Years later, I accepted the second chance president and CEO Roger Jacobs afforded me. Being involved me in many aspects of the business was a golden opportunity to more fully explore my potential. While I am sorry to say goodbye, I am happy to embark on a new chapter in my life.”
