A graphic design student at Concordia University in Montreal has devised a temporary solution for the lack of wayfinding signage near a station for the Reseau express metropolitain (REM), the city’s new light rail transit (LRT) system.

According to a report from Global News[3], the signage directing commuters from the Bonaventure metro station to the Gare Centrale REM station is currently too small to spot, or in some cases, non-existent. As a result, many have complained they are getting lost on the way to the station.

To help combat this issue, Dashiell Friesen designed stickers which feature the REM and Montreal metro logos and created his own system to mark the path. He designed them, printed them, and put them up in a day, for less than $50.

“I wouldn’t really count it as vandalism because it’s helping people,” Friesen told Global News.

He also contacted the project’s stakeholders, who connected the absence of signage to the fact they were renovating that particular hallway.

Installed with permission from Place Bonaventure, the stickers are easily removable and are meant to be temporary until the renovation is completed.
