Skate To Great, a national charity that collects and distributes new and used ice skates, has expressed its disappointment with a Toronto subway station poster that suggests they are waste products instead.
The poster, paid for by the municipal government, features an image of skates in good condition and directs passersby to a website with more information about how to throw various types of items away.
“Right now, there is a shortage of skates in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA),” says Evan Kosiner, co-founder of Skate To Great, which has reportedly collected and distributed more than 30,000 pairs of skates across Canada over the past four years. “We have many donation locations open year-round.”
