Edmonton-based Screen Craft Industries has installed an Acuity Advance ultraviolet-curing (UV-curing) flatbed printer from Fujifilm Canada to expand its product capabilities.
Founded in 1993 by Doug Peterson, Robert Spindler and Don Parks, Screen Craft has grown from a 334.5-m2 (3,600-sf) screenprinting shop into a 1,301-m2 (14,000-sf) facility with an additional sales office in Calgary. It serves clients throughout Alberta and in surrounding provinces with signs, decals and other printed output.
The Acuity printer is enabling significant productivity improvements in several areas. When making rigid signs, for example, Screen Craft can now print directly on the corresponding substrates, eliminating much of the finishing process. In other areas where traditional screenprinting is not cost-effective, the Acuity supports short-run printing with faster turnarounds. And its provision of white ink is opening doors to a broader range of specialty printing products.
