Toronto gets new driftwood sign on waterfront

Shore Land Artists recently created an approximately 2.1 x 15.2-m (7 x 50-ft) bright pink Toronto sign from driftwood to launch the city’s Waterfront business improvement association’s (BIA’s) winter arts program.

Thelia Sanders Shelton and Julie Ryan, co-founders of Shore Land Artists, are well-known for collecting wood from the city’s parks and construction sites and repurposing it, having created Canada 150 and Toronto signs in the past. The Waterfront BIA commissioned the new #TOwaterfront sign as a landmark for selfies at HTO Park’s urban beach.

“We are excited to welcome the sign to the water’s edge,” says Carol Jolly, the BIA’s executive director. “The sculpture will act as a focal point for a busy season of events. We look forward to seeing some beautiful photography and social media posts with the sign as a backdrop.”
