Toronto-based Eventscape was recently contracted to engineer, fabricate and install a 16.5 x 1.4-m (54 x 4.5-ft) custom art wall to adorn a new pedestrian mews area in one of the city’s shopping centres, The Shops at Don Mills.
The art wall was created by direct-printing a graphic onto flat 1.2 x 2.4-m (4 x 8-ft) aluminum composite panels (ACPs), which were then cut with a computer numerical control (CNC) router. A V-groove was cut in the back of each panel to create a 90-degree ‘accordion fold’ before mounting them with steel fasteners onto a steel sub-frame.
The accordion fold allows for two different views of the graffiti-resistant wall. From one side, pedestrians see an historical aerial photo of the Don Mills area; from the other, they see text describing the site.
