Toronto Pflag's interactive poster will start appearing in TDSB middle and high schools this week. (CNW Group/Toronto Pflag)Volunteer-run advocacy group Toronto Pflag has rolled out an interactive advertising campaign in the city’s middle and secondary schools, featuring posters that reveal hidden messages of inclusivity at the flash of a smartphone camera.

At first glance, the posters list the words lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, straight, queer and two-spirited (LGBTQ) against a rainbow background. When students take flash photography of the posters, however, new words like partner, teammate and buddy appear. The students are also encouraged to share their photos with the hashtag #WhatMatters.

“The posters take a creative approach to sharing the important message that LGBTQ students are people you know, respect and love,” says Anne Creighton, president of Toronto Pflag. “We’re very pleased to be working with the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) to get this message into school hallways.”

Ad agency J. Walter Thompson Canada and the Bank of Montreal’s (BMO’s) financial group donated their services and the costs of specialized printing to achieve the interactive effect.
