The Toronto Zoo’s Giant Panda Experience interpretive centre, developed by Reich+Petch (R+P), has won an international design award in the signage, wayfinding and environmental graphic design (EGD) category.
The building’s interior, which opened to the public in May (see Sign Media Canada, September 2013, page 16), has won a 2013 How International Design Award of Merit. The awards recognize excellence and innovation in design around the world.
To create the project, R+P worked with not only the zoo, but also the exhibit planners of Blue Sky Design, audiovisual (AV) specialists with Global Exhibit Technology and the Design Foundation and fabricators and installers at Toronto-based Holman Exhibits. The building educates zoo visitors while they line up to see Er Shun and Da Mao, the two giant pandas staying in Toronto for a minimum of five years.
