At this year’s AdClub Out of Home Showdown, an unusual campaign for the Vancouver Aquarium—which included interactive urinal ads—won the top prize in the multi-platform category.

Executed by ad agency Taxi Vancouver and out-of-home (OOH) firm Zoom Media Canada, the campaign promoted a new exhibit about aquatic species’ means of reproduction and early development.

Taxi’s concept, ‘Baby stories unlike any other,’ included rigged pregnancy tests that were placed in urinals in men’s washrooms in restaurants and bars, such that when a urinal was used, the test displayed as positive. The campaign used Zoom’s printed and digital displays above the urinals to explain that with seahorses, the males get pregnant.
