Colour science companies X-Rite and Pantone have won the If Design Award for the second consecutive year, this time for the Virtual Light Booth (VLB), part of their Total Appearance Capture (TAC) system.
A team of 63 independent experts from around the world reviewed 6.400 entries. The VLB is reportedly the industry’s first three-dimensional (3-D) visualization environment for comparing renderings side-by-side with physical samples, under a variety of illumination conditions, so as to ensure consistency between digital and physical graphics and other materials.
“It is a great honour to win this prestigious award,” says Francis Lamy, X-Rite’s executive vice-president (EVP) and chief technology officer (CTO). “TAC, of which VLB is a key component, is the culmination of 60 years of colour and appearance science. I’m very proud of the entire development team that has brought it to life.”
