Grand River Transit (GRT), the public transport operator serving the Waterloo region, is calling for local artists, graphic designers, and illustrators to create an original full-colour bus wrap for Pride Month in June.

The new wrap will act as a symbol of GRT’s and the Region of Waterloo’s ongoing commitment to providing welcoming and inclusive spaces for all customers and staff. Through their design, the artist or team will recognize 2SLGBTQIA+ Pride, and help raise awareness, foster a sense of belonging and inclusion, and provide opportunities for understanding and connection.

Their artwork should also take into account the primary audience of transit patrons, as well as its placement on a moving vehicle, and use the theme, “Let’s Pride together.” Additionally, it must include both the Region of Waterloo and GRT logos.

Not only will this year’s imagery be applied to the outside of a bus, but it will also adorn posters, interior bus cards, decals, and a window mural in recognition of Pride Month.

The selected artist or team will be paid a design fee of $3,000 plus HST, which will consist of a $1,000 concept design fee and $2,000 upon completion. The budget will cover all project expenses including artist fees, reproduction royalties, an exhibition fee, and all rights to reproduce the image for one year. All material production and installation will be paid for and managed by the region, and copyright will be retained by the artist.

Individuals who are over 18, have a connection to the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, and are comfortable with meeting the applicable deadlines are encouraged to apply by March 17.
