The hosts and graphic design team for Tanked, a TV series on Animal Planet, are using equipment from inkjet printer /cutter vendor Roland DGA to help create elaborate and unusual fish tanks.

The series follows Wayde King and Brett Raymer, two brothers-in-law who run Acrylic Tank Manufacturing (ATM). To add unique design touches to their unconventional projects, their crew has come to rely on a Roland VersaCamm VS-640 wide-format inkjet printer/cutter and EGX-360 rotary engraving machine.

“We build tanks for a long list of clients, including some A-list celebrities, and each is personalized for the individual,” explains Phillip Dominguez, ATM’s art director, who also owns Identity, an advertising and print studio. “An important part of that customization process is incorporating bold, colourful printed graphics.”

Examples include precision graphics printed for the ‘pinball machine’ tanks ATM has built for private residences (pictured).

“We’ve also used our VersaCamm to produce wraps for the ATM truck and trailer,” says Dominguez. “We’re really just getting started with the engraver, which is the perfect tool for adding eye-catching dimensional effects to the tanks we create.”
