185[1]Fujifilm North America’s graphic systems division hosted its latest and largest technology summit in Kansas City, Kan., showcasing wide-format printing systems to a specially invited group of attendees.

One of the customers in attendance was Jimmy Houle, director of sales and development for Solutions Graphical, a dye sublimation, digital printing and screenprinting shop in Drummondville, Que. The company recently installed a Fujifilm Acuity LED 1600 large-format hybrid printer to expand its offerings.

“We do a lot of heat transfer printing and screenprinting and we wanted to move into more of a digital wide-format platform,” says Houle. “With this printer, we can do both roll and rigid substrate printing. Now we’ve come to the tech summit to take a closer look at flatbed printing and learn more about wide-format opportunities.”

Tim Greene, director of InfoTrends’ wide-format consulting service, delivered a presentation titled, ‘Moving to Inkjet: Where, Why When?’ He provided both a broad view of marketplace trends and statistical data showing how wide-format digital printing is a growing market with better profit margins than other types of printing. Specifically, wide-format print shops reported 6.5 per cent year-over-year growth, compared to 4.9 per cent for other print shops.

Future summits are planned for Fufjilm’s technology centre in Hanover Park, Ill., which has been undergoing a major expansion and should be ready for customer events and demonstrations this fall.
